FAQ's
How do I book a babysitter?
You may call our center at (718) 797.3707 to speak to a representative about your childcare needs five days a week from
9am - 6pm or email bagoftricks_nycityexplorers.com any time. You may also arrange childcare at our front desk during business hours. There is a 3-hour minimum for each sitter reservation.
How much time in advance do I need to book a babysitter?
Our babysitters can be booked as much as a month in advance for local babysitting and up to 3 months in advance for traveling families. We can also handle last-minute requests with at least 2-hours notice depending upon sitter availability.
Can I meet my babysitter in advance?
Of course you can! We will have ongoing Meet Our Sitters events throughout the year where you and your family can meet a variety of our sitters and choose the sitter that is the best fit for your family. You may also arrange a one-on-one meeting with your potential sitter prior to your scheduled childcare hours.
May I use the same sitter each time?
You may always request your regular sitterwe love creating lasting relationships. To be sure that your regular sitter is available when you need them, we encourage you to reserve your regular sitter with ample advanced notice.
May I share a sitter with another family?
Sure you can! For multiple family
arrangements, please call for rates.
May I hire a full-time nanny through your company?
We currently do not have full-time nannies available for hire, but do have sitters that can serve as temporary substitutes for your regular caregiver based upon sitter availability.
How do you screen your childcare providers?
All of our childcare providers are background checked and have provided verifiable references to NY City Explorers. In addition, all of our childcare providers are CPR-certified and have completed the NY City Explorers Creative & Educational Sitters© training course.
How do I pay for my childcare services?
You may pay for your childcare services by Visa, MasterCard, cash, or checks made payable to NY City Explorers. If your sitter is leaving your home or hotel past 9:30pm, you are responsible for a $15.00 transportation stipend. The transportation stipend can be paid directly to the sitter at the end of your evening. Tipping is not expected or mandatory. Please note that there is a 3-hour minimum for each sitter reservation.
How do I use my babysitting bundle?
Babysitters are be booked the same way with or without a bundle. Prepaid babysitting does not guarantee a babysitters availability. Sitters are booked on a first come first served basis. There is a 3 children maximum when using your bundle and family sharing fees still apply.You must purchase in bundles of 25 hours.Hours do not expire and bundles are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
Cancellation Policy: When cancelling a confirmed booking with less than 1 calendar day's notice, there will be a $48 cancellation fee. Please plan accordingly.

New York City Explorers has expanded their Bag-of-Tricks Babysitting service to include nannies. Now our fleet includes nannies with years of experience in caring for children of all ages. The shared child care rate start at $9 per hour and come with awesome perks including discounted NYCE programming, educational & child-safety training, and a support network to ensure a happy and healthy nanny. Please, be aware that the nanny share program requires a full time 5 days per week commitment.
What is a Nanny Share?
A nanny share is simply an arrangement made with another family to share the same primary caregiver during the same hours with agreed upon access to each families home.

* Unlimited Exploratorium play Monday through Friday at both locations (Exploratorium will have limited summer hours.

What ages do you accept?
Our nannies are qualified to care for children of many ages including infants.
Are your nannies available part-time and full-time?
Yes. Our nannies are available 7 days a week part- time or full-time.
Do you place long-term or short-term situations?
Our nannies are available for both long-term and short-term assignments. If you need childcare for less than two weeks, however, you should use one of our Bag of Tricks babysitters.
What is the time commitment?
There is a minimum 2-week time commitment. We ask that you give a two-week notice if plan to discontinue our services.
What is the difference between your Bag of Tricks Babysitters and Nannies?
Our nannies have on average 5 years of experience working full-time with families. They have decided childcare as their profession and goal. Our babysitters have on average 3 years experience babysitting part-time. They are pursuing other career aspirations and are either current college students or recent graduates.
How can I sign up?
Please visit or call NY City Explorers to complete an interest form. Once received we will match your interests and desires with our nannies and possible families. Then, we will send you bios of our nannies and set up meetings with families if applicable. Once we find a good match, with matching child rearing philosophies, your family will be able to begin receiving a NY City Explorers nanny with awesome perks.
Is this similar to hire a nanny on my own?
Yes. It is the same, but with extra benefits. Doing a nanny share will drastically reduce the cost of childcare. You will also receive free play space admission Monday through Friday and free enrichment classes. Your nanny will also be enrolled in a sitter enrichment series that will help your nanny nurture and develop early childhood education skills to ensure that your child gets the best care.
Who are the nannies? How do you screen them?
Our nannies have years of experience with children. Many have been nannies in private homes for over 5 years. You will also be able to check their impeccable references. All of our nannies are legally able to work in the United States. Please note that you have the final decision and ultimately hire the nanny. New York City Explorers is acting as a referral agency.
Does my nanny receive health care?
Your nanny will have the option to receive health and/or dental benefits for a small fee that will be deducted from the pay. You have the option to pay part or all of the fee.
How do I pay? Is there a Deposit?
You may use credit cards, cash, or checks to pay for your service. Please note that this service is completely reimbursable from your dependent care flex spending account. There is a 2 week refundable deposit required to reserve your childs space. We ask that you give us a written 2 week notice if you wish to discontinue using our services and receive your deposit.

Need a couple hours to run errands or get a haircut?
Drop your child(ren) off at NY City Explorers where an energetic, fun sitter will guide them through open play in our fun playspace, help them with arts & crafts, and provide healthy organic snacks.
You may reserve 2 or 4 hours of childcare and must reserve your childs space at least 2 days prior to ensure there is space available for your child(ren).

comfortable space while you enjoy a night out in Brooklyn. You can drop off your child with a sleeping bag and then have a great dinner at one of our partnering restaurants in walking distance. What could be better?
From our Atlantic Avenue location, you are doors away from two of our favorite restaurants Downtown Atlantic and Jolie. For a little bit more of a trek, you could choose to walk down restaurant row on Smith Street for a wide variety of dining options.
From our Underhill location, you are doors away from Cheryl's Global Souland famous Tom's Restaurant. You could also choose to walk down Vanderbilt or Flatbush Avenue for a great mix of other dining options.

Adult Support Groups
Parents and caregivers have major responsibilities, choices, and life-changes when raising children. Though no one has all of the answers, NY City Explorers is offering a forum to discuss and share ideas on specific topics. We will host parent-lead support groups in our space. Parents will bring their questions, concerns, and ideas, and we will provide articles, weekly topic starters, and a simultaneous childcare class if needed. Below are just a few sample support groups.
